PREPARING FOR MAY
BLADDER CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
As we approach May, which marks global Bladder Cancer Awareness Month, our charity is taking a number of steps to increase community literacy about bladder cancer among Australians. A significant action is the airing of a community announcement on SBS during May. We will also distribute a press release to the main stream media and social media. And thirdly, we’re asking for a call to action by you to circulate our self-care Bladder Cancer Checklist.
PROMOTE OUR PUBLIC SERVICE
ANNOUNCEMENT ON SBS

We are delighted to announce that Astellas, a global pharmaceutical company, headquartered in Tokyo and with offices in Macquarie Park, NSW, is sponsoring our community service announcements (in Cantonese, Punjabi and English) for bladder cancer on SBS in May.
The purpose of these community education announcements is to raise awareness of bladder cancer among the community. Most Australians know very little about bladder cancer and very few can identify the early warning signs. Blood in the urine (haematuria) is a significant early warning sign that can lead to an early diagnosis and consequently early and effective treatment.
The English ads are on our home page: www.bladdercancer.org.au
If you would like copies of the Cantonese or Punjabi ads to circulate in community groups please email us: contact@bladdercancer.org.au
HELP CIRCULATE OUR BLADDER CANCER CHECKLIST
We have created a Bladder Cancer Checklist for people over 50, who are most at risk of developing bladder cancer. This self-care checklist indicates that the most significant step that you can take is to check your urine daily, and if you notice any change in colour, seek medical advice.
Blood in the urine is a significant early warning sign for bladder cancer. Early detection promises a good outcome.
Please read and take action by passing it onto to everyone you know. Post it on your socials. Print it out and stick it on noticeboards and on the backs of toilet doors. PASS IT ON. If everyone who follows us passes it onto 10 people it will make a HUGE IMPACT for bladder cancer awareness month, and may well help save someone’s life.
HELP DISTRIBUTE OUR
BLADDER CANCER AWARENESS MONTH PRESS RELEASE
If you are a resident in a retirement village, a member of a senior citizens’ group, a member of any other social or community group please feel free to pass on our Bladder Cancer Awareness Month press release. As with the Checklist, a wide distribution will help inform others and prospectively help them.
SUPPORT OUR WORK
If you can, please donate to our charity, www.bladdercancer.org.au to enable us to continue to produce our educational material. Our charity is run entirely by volunteers who raise money, develop resources and reach out to the community to educate and support those with bladder cancer. We get no Government funding.
